Everyone momentarily thinks they are watching Barcelona as Romelu Lukaku scores Man United’s equaliser

Jose Mourinho + big games = park the bus.

That is the formula we have been following for Mourinho’s last season and a half at Man United.

But for a split second against Chelsea we saw what the attacking talents at his disposal can really do when given the chance.

CLAIM YOUR FREE £20 BET Sun Bets have this brilliant offer when you sign up and bet a fiver There were seven Chelsea players in the box as Lukaku strolled through for a goalReuters

The Blues looked like the home side at Old Trafford for most of the first half, dominating the ball and creating more chances, as the United boss sent his side out to shut down any breakaways.

That approach clearly wasn’t hugely successful after Eden Hazard took out six United players with one pass for Willian to score his fourth goal in three games.

With the team 1-0 down at home to a top-six rival something magical happened in the 39th minute.

When you finally score against a top eight teamGetty - Contributor

Man United briefly looked like Barcelona from 2009 as they wove together a number of intricate passes to slice through the Chelsea back line and leave Romelu Lukaku with a simple finish.

It was as if the Mourinho shackles had been lifted and we were given a glimpse into what United would be like if Pep guardiola was in charge.

Lukaku helf the ball up on the edge of the area before laying it off to Nemanja Matic, the Serb instantly forwarded it Alexis Sanchez who threaded a lovely ball into Anthony Martial in the box.

The young Frenchman took it on the turn, held off a player and rolled it into his striker’s path to bury past Thibaut Courtois.

The Belgian frontman has been slated this season for failing to score against any of the big sides and he will be hugely relieved to finally put that record to bed.

It was Lukaku’s 13th league goal of the season but only his first against a team currently in the top eight in the table.

The way the United forward’s intertwined to whizz the ball round the penalty area culminating with the Lukaku goal would’ve brought a smile even to Ebenezer Mourinho’s face.

Wenger raced in the Olympic speed skating final and you already know where he finished

No matter where you are in the world you’re never far from Arsenal banter.

The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeonchang, South Korea, are a perfect example.

To be specific, the men’s mass start speed skating final.

CLAIM YOUR FREE £20 BET Sun Bets have this brilliant offer when you sign up and bet a fiver Like football, but on iceGetty Images - Getty

The gold medal was taken home by South Korean Lee Seung-Hoon, with Bart Swings picking up a silver medal and Koen Verweij finishing in the bronze medal position.

Then came the nod to Arsenal.

In fourth place was Wenger.

May the fourth be with you

Now unfortunately Arsene Wenger hadn’t almost made the podium in South Korea at the age of 68.

It was actually Swiss speed skater Livio Wenger finishing in fourth.

But when Wenger and fourth are in the same sentence there’s always going to be a mention of Arsenal.

Some things never change

Arsenal finished fourth in the Premier League six times in eight years between 2006 and 2014.

However that must seem like a distant memory for this current Arsenal side who are as close to Burnley in seventh as they are to Chelsea in fourth.

Still, that shouldn’t get in the way of a chance to poke fun at Arsenal.

May the fourth be with you.

Ander Herrera one of 36 players potentially facing six-year ban and jail time for match-fixing

Dream Team FC
Ander Herrera one of 36 players potentially facing six-year ban and jail time for match-fixing

Yikes.

Spanish anti-corruption prosecutors have lodged a 17-page indictment demanding two-year jail sentences and six-year bans for 36 players including Man United midfielder Ander Herrera.

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi, former Middlesborough forward Cristhian Stuani and ex-Villarreal right-back Javi Venta are also among those facing the same punishment if convicted of match-fixing.

Man United star Ander Herrera is one of 36 stars Spanish anti-corruption prosecutors have lodged a 17-page indictment demanding two-year jail sentences and six-year soccer bans forTrouble brewingPA:Press Association

Prosecutors have accused the players of a sports corruption in a La Liga game between Real Zaragoza and Levante on May 21, 2011.

Herrera was one of nine then-Zaragoza players to receive payments of up to £79,000 which prosecutors claim ended up in the hands of Levante players who agreed to “lose” the crunch match and help their rivals avoid relegation.

At the time of the original claims, Herrera said: “I have never and never will have anything to do with the manipulation of the results of matches.

“If I am ever called to testify in a judicial hearing, I will be delighted to attend.”

Zaragoza’s manager at the time Javier Aguirre and ex-owner Agapito Iglesias are among five former club chiefs also facing trial.

Prosecutors allege in the indictment that the Zaragoza players “consented and accepted” the match-fixing arrangement Iglesias, Aguirre, former sports director Antonio Prieto Martinez and the captains (including Gabi) reached with the Levante players.

PLAY DREAM TEAM WEEKENDER Pick seven players to win £5k!

Their indictment, lodged with a court in Valencia, says: “Under the agreement the Levante players would let themselves be beaten at home on May 21, 2011 in return for a payment of £852,000 that was to be handed over to the players before the beginning of the match.

“To carry out this plan Agapito Iglesias ordered co-accused Francisco Javier Porquera Perez, Zaragoza’s Finance Director and the person who had the electronic means to do so, to transfer fixed amounts of money from Real Zaragoza’s account on May 17 and 19 to the bank accounts of Antonio Prieto Martinez, Javier Aguirre and nine Real Zaragoza players.”

Herrera’s name is in black and white on a chart showing he received £44,000 on May 17 and £35,000 on May 19.

Another graph shows he withdrew the first payment in cash from a branch of Ibercaja bank in Jorge Cocci Street in Zaragoza on May 19, 2011 and the second payment the following day.

Herrera played in Zaragoza’s 2-1 away win which meant Deportivo La Coruna were relegated. He was substituted in the 73rd minute.

Former Middlesbrough star Cristian Stuani is among the players potentially facing a jail term and banFormer Middlesbrough star Cristhian Stuani Stuani is among the players potentially facing punishmentPA:Press Association

Prosecutors say Zaragoza attempted to legitimise the alleged bribes through payslips.

The indictment says Herrera’s payslip, called P.Extra 5 and “created with the intention of hiding the true destination of the money” on September 19, 2011 according to prosecutors, showed a total payment of £108,000.

Prosecutors say only a part of that total – £28,500 paid in cash – was a genuine bonus for avoiding relegation.

Gabi scored Zaragozas two goals in their victory over LevanteGabi scored Zaragoza’s two goals in their victory over LevanteGetty

As well as the prison sentence and football ban for the players, prosecutors want them to pay a fine of £1.7m each if convicted of sports corruption.

Two-year prison sentences for first-time offenders in Spain are usually suspended.

The judges who ordered the reopening of the case, based at Valencia Provincial Court, ruled: “The assertions of the Zaragoza players and directors are inconsistent and even contradictory.”

In an dramatic Fifth Round clash, City’s Fabian Delph was shown a red card at the end of the first-half for a tackle on Wigan’s Max Power.

And Guardiola could be clearly seen clashing with Lactics boss Paul Cook on the sidelines and in the tunnel directly afterwards.

But wait, it gets worse.

At full-time, with Wigan celebrating their famous win, City striker Sergio Aguero could be seen clashing with a Wigan supporter in the BBC replays.

In scenes that at this stage are inconclusive, it appears the Argentinian raises his hands to a fan on the pitch, and is then pulled away from the scuffle by a Wigan staff member, before diving down the tunnel.

Take a look.

What do you think?

Wigan’s fans invaded the pitch at full-time following their win, and Aguero seemingly reacted angrily to being confronted.

Rivaldo, Sergio Busquets and how one dive can tarnish a world-class player’s career forever

Dream Team FC
Rivaldo, Sergio Busquets and how one dive can tarnish a world-class player’s career forever

I am not about to advocate diving — I’ll leave that to Mauricio Pochettino.

But last week we published a video in appreciation of Sergio Busquets on our Facebook page and I was shocked at how quick many were to dismiss his career because of THAT dive against Inter in 2010.

You know the one; Thiago Motta brushed the Barcelona midfielder’s face without any intention of causing harm and Busquets hit the deck.

Oh dear…AP:Associated Press

Cameras caught him peeking through his hands to check the reaction before Motta was unjustly sent off for violent conduct.

It was disgraceful and you would hope that Busquets felt embarrassed and ashamed when he watched the replays.

Peek-a-boo

I understand why many would be put off by this behaviour, but to let his propensity to hit the deck distract from his ability is a great shame.

His dive against Inter is not the only time he’s gone down easy, and I too roll my eyes whenever he tries to con the ref, but that doesn’t mean I don’t purr when plays his way out of a tight situation.

His simple yet effective style is a joy to behold and I’m inclined to agree with Xavi’s opinion that he’s perhaps the most tactically aware player to ever grace a pitch.

This is what retaining possession looks likeGetty Images - Getty

However, I can’t help but feel his diving will prevent him from reaching the level of respect afforded to Xavi and Andres Iniesta from non-Barca fans.

It’s possible to dislike him while also appreciating him.

To deny yourself the enjoyment of Busquets the player is a tragedy.

Sergio Busquets — The Art of Deception pic.twitter.com/WoxPb3HWoB

— ty (@finalthrd) February 9, 2018

Something similar could be said of Rivaldo.

Upon hearing his name, many people’s first thought would be the image of him clutching his face after being hit in the knee by a ball against Turkey at the 2002 World Cup.

Again, it was a ridiculous dive and he deserves to be mocked for such outrageous simulation.

Pathetic…

But to let that error in judgement define his career is unfair.

Rivaldo is a World Player of the Year winner, a key figure in Brazil’s legendary crop of 2002, and one of the greatest talents of the modern era.

And yet you’ll be hard pressed to find a mention of him on social media not met with GIFs of his tumble against Turkey.

The tarnished legacies of Busquets and Rivaldo should act as effective deterrents.

No player wants to become a meme.

Arjen Robben, Jurgen Klinsmann, Dele Alli… the list of talented divers goes on.Getty - Contributor

Anything that leads to a reduction in diving gets my vote but I’ll never feel wholly comfortable with world-class players going underappreciated.

You don’t have to like them, you don’t even have to respect them as people, but at least consider their worth from a purely footballing perspective.

Ultimately however, the blame lies with those who dive and, ironically, they don’t really have a leg to stand on.

Danny Rose shows a touch of class with his Ryan Mason tribute

Danny Rose got plenty of stick from Spurs fans for a perceived attempt to engineer a move away from the club in the summer.

But he showed a genuine touch of class when Harry Kane scored what looked like being the winner in a pulsating FA Cup tie against Rochdale.

While most of Spurs’ players ran off to celebrate with Kane, Rose peeled off and shouted Ryan Mason’s name down the camera.

He gave the lens a kiss before going over the celebrate with his team-mates.

Mason was forced to retire after struggling to make a full recovery from a shocking head injury suffered against Chelsea in January 2017.

A brilliant show of support from Rose towards his former team-mate.

Rose and Mason were team-mates at SpursReuters

Mason was clearly watching on as he tweeted following the celebrations.

At the time it looked like Kane’s penalty, on the ground he made his Football League debut, would be enough to take Spurs through to the next round.

Rosey ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™

— Ryan Mason (@RyanMason) February 18, 2018

Ian Henderson put Rochdale ahead at half-time before goals from the impressive Lucas Moura and Kane turned the game around.

But there was still time for the magic of the FA Cup to take hold.

Substitute Steve Davies popped up in the 93rd minute to equalise and earn Rochdale a replay.

League One’s bottom side will head to Wembley, but first there’s a trip to Milton Keynes to take care of.

I love this game.
